Gymnastics Party Decorations

Gymnastics Party Decorations create an atmosphere to put your guests in the party theme mood.   At home parties can have some of the indoor decorating done the day prior to the event.  Set the table, layout the serving dishes, and arrange the party decorations before time limiting the work needed on the actual party day. No shopping should be done on party day.

History of Gymnastics: Gymnastics has been around for over 2000 years but has only been in the form currently recognized by Americans as a competitive sport for about 100 years. In the 1830s, gymnastics was introduced to the United States and its school systems by immigrants Charles Beck, Charles Follen and Francis Lieber. Sixty years later the first large-scale competition was held at the 1896 Olympics in Athens, Greece. Following the Olympics, the next major international event was held in 1903 in Antwerp, Belgium. Here, gymnasts competed from all over Europe for what is considered to be the first World Championship followed by the first men’s team competition at the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis. During 1924 Olympics in France marked the beginning of gymnastics by holding events similar to modern culture. In gymnastics, men started to compete for individual Olympic titles in each gymnastic event. The first womens’ gymnastics team debuted during the 1928 Olympics. The first women's event was the team combined exercise, dominated by Netherlands. The United States first competed in womens’ gymnastics at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany.

By the ninth World Championship in 1930 in Luxembourg, the gymnastic competition included track and field events including pole vault, broad jump, shot put, rope climb, and 100-meter dash. Slowly, track and field events started to disappear from gymnastics events, like the World Championships. By 1954 all track and field components had been removed from the sport of gymnastics when the 1954 World Championships were held. Finally, in 1970, the United States Gymnastics Federation, formally known as USA Gymnastics, was organized and is still the governing body for gymnastics in the United States.
