History of Curious George: Curious George is the lead character in the Curious George series of popular children’s books. These books were written by Hans Augusto Rey and Margret Rey. The books feature a curious monkey, hence the title’s name, George, who is taken from his home in Africa by the “Man with the Yellow Hat" to live in the big city. Curious George first appeared in 1941. This book starts out with George living in Africa and narrates the story of his capture by the Man with the Yellow Hat, who takes him on a ship to "the big city" where he will live in the zoo. This is followed by the second book, Curious George Takes a Job in 1947, and begins with George living in the zoo, from which he escapes and has various adventures before the “Man with the Yellow Hat” finds him yet again and decides to take George home to live with him there. All the following stories highlight George's adventures while living at the house of the “Man with the Yellow Hat.”

Curious George was modernly resurrected in the spring of 2006 when comedian Will Ferrell starred as the voice of “Ted” who was the movie’s name for the Man with the Yellow Hat. Following up on the success of the movie, PBS launched an animated series on PBS Kids in the fall of 2006. Here the audience gets a firsthand glimpse of George, the Man with the Yellow Hat, and the mischief George gets in and out of time and time again. This show teaches the wonderment of children and the kindness of community and strangers.
