Relax with a Luau theme party The weather is warm, the water is fine, and you are longing for the sand and surf of a Luau theme party! This is the perfect time for a Luau Theme Party! Luau theme parties have the reputation of having to be held at pools, but you can have a great Luau theme party inside your home even while the cold winds blow on outdoors.
For your table, drape the table with blue throw away tablecloths with scalloped edges, to simulate an ocean. Another option would be to get green or brown paper table cloths and cut the edges to resemble grass skirts. Double sided tape applied to the edges of the table onto which you stick long strands of raffia also work well. Pile a large pile of brown sugar in the center of the table, and stand beach Barbie and Ken dolls dressed in island attire in the center of the table as a center piece. Add a miniature surf board, a coconut, and pineapple, and your centerpiece is done.
A simple pineapple upside down cake is a great cake for this party. You can also serve nuts such as macadamia, almonds, and cashews, and make macadamia nut cookies. Use a cookie sized flat sea shell to impress a shell design in the cookie, and dust the top with brown sugar, so they look like shells. Serve tropical punch and fruit cups as well. The meal may be served in a plastic sand pail which can be taken home as a party favor later!
Have hula dancing instructions and contests. An easy way to make hula skirts is to take green trash bags, cut the bottom off and cut long strips to form the 'grass'.
Set up pineapples in the general order of bowling pins; one in front, two in the middle, and three in back. Let guests use a coconut to roll like a bowling ball, and the winner gets the prize. Be sure all breakables are put out of harm's way before the party!
